Aight, so peep the drama, 'cause this one's spicy. OpenAI just told Cursor — the coding tool damn near every developer on the planet has open right now — that the models are getting cut off. Shutoff date set for November 12. Cold.

Why? Two weeks earlier, SpaceX bought Cursor's parent company Anysphere for $60 billion. And once Elon's name is on the deed, OpenAI reached for the fine print and pulled the change-of-control clause. Straight up said it "cannot be confident that SpaceX will use our technology within our terms of service, based on our experience with Elon Musk's companies violating contracts." That's corporate for *we don't trust your homie.*

And they got receipts. OpenAI points to Musk admitting under oath that xAI used OpenAI outputs to train a rival — a no-no in the terms — plus the whole "Twitter deal went sideways" history. They're also waving the safety flag: with the new Astra model and its cyber muscle, they say there's a new level of accountability on who gets to plug in. Real talk or clapback in the Altman-versus-Musk beef? Little of both, playa.

Here's the part nobody's clocking

Cursor's co-founder Michael Truell kept it cool and dropped the number that matters: OpenAI models were only about 5% of Cursor's AI traffic. Five percent. Losing OpenAI stings the pride, but the lights stay on.
